When I was in high school, I never really thought much about HOW to study. I was more focused on WHAT I was supposed to be learning and how I could get decent grades. Because I didn’t know any better, I ended up pulling a lot of all-nighters trying to cram and get everything into my brain in one night! I made it through high school and when I started university, I thought I could use the same study methods that I used in high school. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Don’t get me wrong, I did alright in some courses, but I actually ended up failing a course for the first time in my life! And it was at that moment that I realized that no one ever really teaches you HOW to study. You are expected to figure out how to learn to material on your own. Some students are able to figure this out relatively easy, but others struggle.
Many students don’t know this, but there is a person called a Learning Strategist who can help you learn how to study more effectively, and — drum roll please — I AM A LEARNING STRATEGIST! I really could’ve used someone like me when I was in school!
What Makes Me A Great Learning Strategist?
I have over 20 years of experience working in diverse educational settings and I have worked with learners of all ages and abilities. I first began my career as an Occupational Therapist working in schools across the Greater Toronto Area, in the USA and in Sunny Bermuda. I have been working in higher education since 2011 and currently works at Centennial College in Toronto, Canada. I offer private consulting and I am a dynamic and engaging public speaker.
Now also a certified fitness instructor, I am extremely passionate about health and wellness and I guide students to take better care of themselves in order to optimize their brains for learning.
In the summer of 2018, I first launched Anatomy Boot Camp; a fitness class/study group that allows students to review the anatomy and physiology of their bodies while getting fit at the same time.
